Stockbridge-Munsee Sash & medallion

My first time sewing a sash.

First off, I want to thank the Stockbridge-Munsee Pow Wow Committee for choosing me to create these pieces. It was an honor and definitely a learning experience. Everything was sewn by hand—no machines were used in the making of these two pieces.

It took a while to get them done. With the medallion, I had to restart three different times and almost quit because I couldn’t get the words to lay right. But eventually, I figured it out and was able to finish it.

The sash was another major challenge. I’ve never sewn anything beyond a button on my pants once or twice, so going from nothing to a fully completed sash is huge for me. Everything you see is completely hand-sewn. The only “machines” I used were my MacBook for the stencil design and an iron to make sure everything laid flat.

I had to restart this one three times as well and almost ran out of felt, but we made it work. I almost gave up on this one too. This project taught me a lot about patience—the amount it took to complete this was unreal—but I’m grateful for the experience and the honor of creating the 50th Stockbridge-Munsee Brave sash and medallion.
